The Scottish elite division giants have set sights on the 23-year-old winger in their bid to reinforce their forward line options with his capturing next term
Scottish Premiership superpowers Celtic and Rangers are currently in the queue to sign London-born Ghanaian winger Kwame Poku, with both suitors told the hotly pursued winger is unlikely to team up with any of them as he could sign for a top end Championship club in the summer.
The evergreen attacking widesman has been on fire for Peterborough so far this season and such fine form has caught the eyes of many admirers, with former Premier League outfit Birmingham City now leading the race to land him ahead of the new football season.
According to Peterborough United sporting director Barry Francis Fry, the Glasgow top guns duo have watched the talented winger on multiple occasions this season but doesn't think any of them could land him this summer as he is likely to join an unnamed newly-promoted English Championship side after missing out on his services during the January transfer window through injury.
''Celtic and Rangers have been at most of our games this season, but I don’t believe Kwame will go to Scotland. He will more likely sign for a top end Championship club. A Championship club tried to force a deal through for Kwame in January, but he was injured at the time and they didn’t offer anything like what we wanted,'' the English football administrator said as quoted by Scottish tabloid newspaper The Daily Record.
With his current deal set to expire in June this year, those vying for his signature are expected to cough up an amount of 1.5 million euros for his services as per his transfermarkt valuation.
Opoku has so far been involved in 31 games by netting 12 and assisting 11 for Peterborough across all competitions in this current football season.
He has so far earned one cap for Ghana at the international level since switching nationality allegiance to represent the four-time African champions in 2021.
