The German second division side have snapped up the loan services of the 27-year-old defender from the Swiss top tier side until the end of the season

Ghana international defender Stephan Ambrosius has joined 2. Bundesliga side Karlsruher SC from Swiss Super League side FC St. Gallen on a six-month loan deal, the club have confirmed.

The former Hamburger SV centre-back, who linked up with the Swiss outfit in a three-year contract in the summer of 2024, has so far found game time hard to come by this term after returning from a lengthy injury layoff in this current campaign.

ln announcing the loan deal with the Ghana international defender, the Wildparkstadion outfit have said they have the option of making the loan deal permanent at the end of the season.

''Karlsruhe has reacted to injuries in central defense by signing Stephan Ambrosius on loan from FC St. Gallen until the end of the season – with an option to buy. The robust center-back will thus be wearing the blue and white for the second time, following his return in the 2022/23 season,'' a statement reads.

''Stephan Ambrosius has already made 19 appearances for KSC, and now the 27-year-old central defender returns to the BBBank Wildpark – again on loan. Karlsruher SC has also agreed an option to buy with the second-placed team in the Swiss Super League. He will wear the number 5 jersey at KSC and will join the team today.''

Ambrosius expressed his excitement over his transfer switch to his new employers, telling his club's official website: ''I’m happy to be back at KSC. I still know some of the players from the locker room and I’m sure I’ll integrate quickly. I want to help the team with my experience as soon as possible.”

Sporting director Mario Eggimann added: ''Stephan is a true competitor and an ideal solution for us in the current situation. He knows KSC, the coaching staff, and has already played with some of the current squad. He is in good shape and therefore won't need a long adjustment period. He also brings the right mentality and experience.''

He has so far figured in two friendly games for Ghana senior national team, the Black Stars after switching international allegiance to represent the West African powerhouse in 2022.
