The English third-tier side have announced the capturing of the talented teenager of Ghanaian origin from his parent club in the second-tier on transfer deadline day
London-born Ghanaian defender Travis Akomeah has joined League Two club Gillingham FC from Championship side Watford on a short-term loan deal, the club have confirmed.
The 19-year-old former Chelsea U21 star is set to spent time in the English lower division contest with those in charge of the Priestfield Stadium until January 2026.
An official statement over Travis loan deal read: ''Gillingham have added to their defensive options with the capture of Travis Akomeah from Watford on loan until January.
''The 19-year-old centre-back, who rejoined the Hornets earlier this year following his departure from Chelsea, joins the Gills until the New Year and could make his league debut this weekend.
''Akomeah featured twice for Chelsea in last season’s Vertu Trophy, playing the full 90 minutes at Bromley before coming on as a second-half substitute against Charlton in October 2024.''
The teenage centre-back said after sealing his loan move to his new outfit as indicated on the club's official website: ''I am really excited to be here. It's my first loan so I am looking to get men's Football experience and help the team. I would say I was versatile; I am calm and composed in possession. Everyone as a collective has been very welcoming."
After featuring for the England U17 & U18 national team, the London-born defender remains eligible to represent Ghana at the international level given his Ghanaian heritage.
