3. Liga side Viktoria Köln have confirmed the season-long loan signing of German-born Ghanaian youngster Joel Agyekum from Bundesliga club Hamburger SV.

The talented youngster is joining the Sportpark Höhenberg outfit so as to gain much experience and game time in the lower division contest for the 2025-26 football season.

An official statement over the loan deal of the Ghana-prospect read: ''At the end of the transfer window, Viktoria Köln strengthens its defense with Joel Agyekum. The 20-year-old joins on a one-season loan from Bundesliga club HSV.''

Joel expressed his gleefulness right after sealing his loan switch to his new side, telling his club's official website: ''I'm very happy to be here. It's a great challenge for me to be part of a strong team in the 3rd division.''

Sporting director Stephan Küsters added: ''I'm pleased that the loan deal worked out so shortly before the end of the transfer window. Joel is a player who can play in both a back three and a back four. He's still young, but has already proven his qualities. Therefore, I'm confident he'll play a good role with us. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank HSV for the uncomplicated cooperation. We're now looking forward to Joel and to him giving it his all for Viktoria."

Given his Ghanaian root, the Hamburg-born defender remains eligible to play for Ghana at the international level having played for the Germany U18 national youth team.
