Ghanaian forward, Sirlord Conteh scored as Werder Bremen crashed out of DFB Pokal on penalties at home to SC Paderborn on Wednesday night.

Paderborn produced an improved performance at Home Deluxe Arena to break the River Islanders' hearts, though, the game ended 2-2 after 90 minutes before it moved to penalty shootouts to compound the misery of the away side.

Paderborn took the lead in the 22nd minute through Felix Platte, who twist and turned as he fired low past Jiří Pavlenka in the Werder Bremen net.

Conteh extended their lead in the 43rd minute after a fine long carpet pass from 10 shirted Julian Justvan before tapping the ball in-between the hands of Pavlenka to make the home crowd go gaga.

After the break, the River Islanders huddled from two goals down to force the game to end in a 2-2 draw stalemate.

Conteh was taken off in the 63rd minute by another German-born Ghanaian forward Richmond Tachie.

Tachie netted the final penalty to send Paderborn through to the next round of the competition as they won 5-4 in the decisive shootouts.

Conteh has made 14 appearances across all competitions this season, scored three goals and registered one assist.
