Zulte Waregem defeated RWD Molenbeek at Elindus Arena to secure promotion to the Belgium Pro League, and Joseph Amankwaah Opoku was at the heart of the action in all the best ways.

Going into the game, Waregem were tied on the same point with second-placed RAAL La Louviere, and knew that a win would be enough to secure top-flight football next season.

19-year-old Opoku was the third top performer in Waregem vs RWDM player ratings, climbing off the bench in the 67th minute, and rightly so. Now, he gets to celebrate promotion with his teammates, and he had plenty to say in relation to that.

Taking to social media to offer his first thoughts regarding the 'Essevee' sealing promotion, and insisted there's much more to come.

He said: “What an incredible way to end my first season in professional football - winning a hard-fought championship and earning promotion to the Belgian First Division on the final day!

"I’m deeply grateful to the coaching staff for taking a chance on me and believing in me, to my amazing teammates for their fight and unity, and to the club officials for their trust and support throughout the season.

"To the fans - your passion carried us through. The opportunity to play in front of you has been an honor, and I can’t wait to represent this club at the highest level. Thank you all. This is just the beginning!"

Opoku, who has a year remaining on his current contract, joined Waregem in August, 2024 from Ghanaian club Great Corinthians. He is expected to play a crucial part in their return to the Belgium Pro League next season.
