Prosper Kasim scored a superb goal to power Birmingham Legion to the quarter-finals and keep the title race of the US Open Cup alive, as they beat Charlotte FC 1-0 on Wednesday evening at the Protective Stadium in Alabama.
The former Ghana under-20 star was teed-up expertly by striker Juan Agudelo, who sent a ball in behind to Kasim on the right wing. However, Kasim cut the ball inside, beat fellow Ghanaian compatroit Derrick Jones Amaniampong, and sent a low driven shot to the far post with his left foot that was too low and fast for goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina to save in the 60th minute mark.
After the game, goalscorer Kasim expressed his joy saying; “I just realized that there were just two guys behind and it was a counter, so I felt like I just had to go inside to my favorite foot. So it just happened."
“Tonight was a collective win. Everyone was fighting hard and then working very hard. So I feel like I just happened to be the guy to finish. It was a collective effort," Kasim added.
This was not the first time Prosper Kasim has made Birmingham sports history. The “star boy” as fans call him has been with Birmingham Legion since its inaugural season in 2019, and he scored the first ever home and away goals in club history and was the 2019 Team MVP.
