The ex-Club Brugge youth star was billed to join up with the Finnish elite division campaigners, but has decided to pull the plug over the transfer switch as he looks forward to staying put with his current employers

Helsingborgs IF boss Stevie Grieve has revealed that Ghanaian midfielder Samuel Asoma has rejected the advances of Finnish Veikkausliiga side Vaasan Palloseura, with his current suitors told ''he wants to stay and we're not forcing him away'', as he is now set to stay at his club for the upcoming Superettan contest.

The former Swedish top-flight campaigners were ready to cash in on the 23-year-old to the Finnish side, but has decided to drag his feet over the transfer move, with the deal now cancelled as affirmed by his Dutch manager.

ln reaction over the much-anticipated transfer deal between both clubs, the man on the touchline at the Olympiastadion has said of the interest in the services of the Ghana-prospect midfielder by the Stripe, telling Swedish tabloid HD: ''He (Samuel Asoma) wants to stay. If a team makes an offer but the player doesn't want to, that's how it is. We're not forcing him away.''

''If a club wants to buy our player, we will take it to him, and then he can have the discussion. If he doesn't want to leave, we respect that and he is still part of our squad,'' he added.

Asoma took in 28 appearances for Helsingborgs lF during the 2024-25 football season.

The Berekum-born player having migrated to Belgium at a very young age, is still eligible to represent Ghana on the international stage despite playing for the Belgium national youth teams.
