Ghanaian defender Sam Kuffour has signed for English National League South side Hornchurch FC on a season-long loan from Colchester United.
The 22-year-old, son of former Ghana and Bayern Munich legend Samuel Osei Kuffour, arrives after a brief spell with Maldon & Tiptree.
Hornchurch manager Daryl McMahon said the club is eager to help accelerate the young defender’s development.
“I saw him play a couple of times last year for Maldon & Tiptree and we knew about his potential. We’re really happy Colchester United and Danny Cowley have trusted us to work with him,” McMahon said.
“We hope Sam can develop just like the other boys we had on loan last year, and we’re confident he can.”
Kuffour made his debut in Hornchurch’s season opener, coming on late to help secure a 3-2 home victory over Weston-Super-Mare.
A powerful centre-back who has expressed his ambition to follow in his father’s footsteps, Kuffour began his career in the academies of Brentford and West Ham before moving to Israel to sign for Hapoel Be’er Sheva. He returned to England in 2022 to join Colchester, with loan spells at Chesnut and Maldon & Tiptree along the way.
