Ghanaian striker Caleb Ekuban came off the bench to score to propel Genoa CFC to an important away win over Empoli in the Italian Serie A on Saturday evening.

Genoa returned to winning ways after inflicting a 2-1 home loss on Empoli in the match-week 18 fixture at the Stadio Carlo Castellani.

Croatian international Milan Badelj fired up for the visitors with the opening goal, just 25 seconds from the break to silence the fans of Empoli in their backyard.

Empoli had the opportunity to level the score from the spot in the 54th minute, but on-loan Inter Milan forward Sebastiano Esposito was denied from scoring from the spot when his kick was saved by Nicola Leali.

Patrick Viera made a tactical substitution with the introduction of Caleb Ekuban in the 63rd minute as a replacement for Andrea Pinamonti.

Ekuban announced his presence with a cool finish when he connected with a low cross from Fabio Miretti after just five minutes of introduction to extend the lead to 2-0 for Genoa CFC.

A 74th-minute strike from Sebastiano Esposito wasn't enough to hand the home side a point as the fixture ended in a 2-1 win for Genoa at the Stadio Carlo Castellani.

Ekuban has made six Serie A appearances for Genoa CFC this season so far with a goal to his credit.
