Tariq Lamptey is expected to miss the FIFA World Cup after leaving ACF Fiorentina following the mutual termination of his contract.
The Ghana defender suffered a serious ACL injury in his left knee in September, only weeks after joining the Italian club from Brighton & Hove Albion.
Lamptey played just two matches for Fiorentina before the injury, coming off the bench against SSC Napoli and Como 1907.
The 25-year-old picked up the injury during the game against Como on September 21 and did not return for the rest of the season, managing only 25 minutes of football for the club.
Fiorentina earlier described the problem as a “complex medical situation”.
His departure from the club is now being viewed as a strong sign that he may not recover in time for the World Cup in North America next month.
Lamptey has battled several injury problems during his career since coming through at Chelsea FC before moving to Brighton in 2020.
The right-back has made 11 appearances for the Black Stars, with his last game for Ghana coming in October 2024.
Ghana have been placed in Group L and will start their campaign against Panama in Toronto on June 17. They will then play England on June 23 and finish the group stage against Croatia on June 27.
