Former England and Manchester United defender, Gary Neville has picked Ghana's Thomas Partey and Jorginho as better defensive midfielders over Declan Rice and has given reasons to that.

The 31-year-old started last season on a good note but sustained an injury last October and stayed out of action for a long time before returning in the latter part.

He bounced back on a blistering note and made 14 appearances in the Premier League to help Arsenal fight for the title but unfortunately lost it to the eventual champions Manchester City.

The mercurial midfielder during his return, played alongside Jorginho and Declan Rice in most of their matches and that's why the former Man United right back believes Partey is ahead of Thomas Partey in terms of handling defensive duties from the center-half of the pitch.

"I want to mention a player who we all love 100 percent. Mikel Arteta moved Declan Rice out of that number six position for the last 15 games of the season to bring in Jorginho and Thomas Partey, because he’s not that good at playing there."

Thomas Partey, who is still in Ghana, recently captained the Black Stars to back to back wins over Mali and Central African Republic in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
