Thomas Partey finally ended his goal drought for Ghana with two goals against Madagascar in the Black Stars’ 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Monday.

The Arsenal midfielder, who had not found the net for the national team since his iconic goal against Nigeria in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, delivered a crucial moment for Ghana over two years later.

Partey’s first goal came in the 11th minute, powerfully connecting Jordan Ayew’s free kick, the 32-year-old scored his second in the 54th minute with a powerful header from another Jordan Ayew corner kick before Mohammed Kudus added the third. Partey’s last international goal, scored in Abuja, had secured Ghana’s place at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, making his latest effort even more significant as the Black Stars push for another World Cup berth.

The midfielder’s return to the scoresheet will be a major boost for Otto Addo’s side, who are looking to maintain their strong position in Group I.

Partey’s leadership and experience were on full display throughout the game, as he controlled the tempo in midfield and contributed defensively while also getting forward.

Ghana’s win against Madagascar further strengthens their qualification hopes, with the Black Stars opening a five-point lead at the top of Group I.
