Ghanaian midfielder Umar Bashiru has completed a move to newly promoted Iraqi Stars League side Al Mosul ahead of the 2025-26 season's campaign.

The 28-year-old has joined the Iraqi outfit on a one-year contract with an option for extension, following successful negotiations with the club.

Bashiru has joined Al Mosul on a free transfer after ending his three-and-half year stay in Ethiopia, having featured for Insurance FC Medhin and Ethiopian Nigd Bank SA.

The former Karela United and Asante Kotoko transformative midfielder played a instrumental role in Ethiopia Nigd Bank’s historic league triumph during their debut topflight season in 2023-24.

He was subsequently adjudged Ethiopian Premier League Player of the Year, after scoring 7 goals and providing 9 assists during that campaign.

Before his move to East Africa in 2022, Bashiru featured prominently in the Ghana Premier League, lining up for clubs such as West Africa Football Academy (WAFA), Asante Kotoko, and Karela United.

He once featured for the Black Galaxies of Ghana during the 2022 CHAN Qualifiers.
