Five English Championship clubs have reportedly expressed keen interest in signing Kwame Poku in the upcoming winter transfer window.

The English-born Ghanaian attacker has attracted interest from West Bromwich Albion, Bristol City, Sunderland, Ipswich Town and Millwall FC following his explosive performances in the League One.

According to English tabloid, Bristol City has emerged as frontrunners for a possible acquisition of the 22-year-old who is turning heads around in the English League One with Peterborough United.

Poku, who can operate on either flank or in the No10 role, has seven goals and assists from his 22 games in all competitions this term. In fact, the former Colchester ace is in the form of his career at present, with five goals and four assists recorded in his past seven games.

His impressive form has helped Darren Ferguson’s fifth-placed League One side maintain a promotion push and keep pace with current leaders Portsmouth

However, all clubs will be aware that Poku is under contract until 2025, after signing a four-year deal at London Road in 2021. Meanwhile, Peterborough co-owner and chairman Darragh McAnthony will prove to be a tough negotiator if any club thinks they can get the in-form youngster on the cheap.

Poku’s ability to score goals and create opportunities for his team-mates would certainly prove tempting. At the moment, Bristol City’s Championship goals total of 16 is the lowest among teams in the top half of the division. Meanwhile, they have the fifth-joint-lowest goals for total in the whole of the Championship.

Poku is in line for a call-up to the senior national team of Ghana, having already represented the West African nation at the U23 level.
