Arsenal legend Ian Wright has thrown his full support behind Thomas Partey, urging the club to hand the Ghanaian midfielder a contract extension.
Speaking passionately about Partey's value to the team, Wright dismissed any doubts about the midfielder’s future at the Emirates, highlighting his unique qualities and importance to Mikel Arteta’s setup.
“I don’t see why we should be thinking about it—there’s nothing to think about,” Wright said. “Thomas Partey should be given another contract. It’s not easy to find a midfielder like Thomas. We don’t have many of them in the streets. He has shown it that he deserves more and more.”
Partey, who joined Arsenal in October 2020 from Atlético Madrid, has endured an injury-plagued spell in north London but remains one of the most technically gifted and tactically disciplined players in the squad. When fully fit, his presence in midfield has been crucial in stabilising Arsenal’s shape and adding control in possession.
The 30-year-old’s current contract runs until 2025, and with speculation around his long-term future, Wright’s endorsement could influence fan sentiment and possibly the club’s decision-makers.
Partey recently returned to full fitness and has delivered several solid performances, prompting renewed calls from fans and pundits alike for Arsenal to secure his services beyond his existing deal.
With Arsenal continuing their push for major trophies under Arteta, Wright believes extending Partey’s contract would be a step in the right direction.
