Kumasi Anglican SHS (SUPER KASS) have defied all odds to emerge champions of the 2023/24 Ashanti Regional Inter-Schools and Colleges Boys Soccer Championship after narrowly edging Sakafia SHS by 1-0 in a thrilling final at the Baba Yara Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
After almost eight years, the Mauves have finally had their hands gripped to the coveted trophy once again with their last win coming in 2016 when they defeated Islamic SHS via penalty shootouts.
KASS came into the game seeking their fifth honour and that's exactly what they have achieved now, whiles Sakafia SHS were really desperate on winning their first title but missed out narrowly, having taking out giants like Real AMASS, Prempeh College and others en route to their first final.
It was really a very tensed encounter with both teams starting on a brighter note and attacked each other with so much intent and purpose but the game recorded no goal at half time.
Back from recess, it was a similar approach until Kumasi Anglican SHS finally jumped ahead on the 54th minute courtesy Baah Peter Jr, and stayed up gallantly to preserve their lead until full time to emerge champions.
The Disciples have now won the championship on five occasions and have tied up with Adu Gyamfi SHS as the second teams with the most honours after OKESS, having previously won in 1994, 1999, 2006 and 2016.
Earlier, Prempeh College humbled another heavyweights Adu Gyamfi SHS by an emphatic 3-0 in the third-place playoff.
