In a heartfelt message to Ghanaians, Joseph Paintsil expressed deep regret for the Black Stars falling short of the nation's expectations during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
Following a 2-2 draw against Mozambique, the West African powerhouse's chances of advancing to the knockout stages were slim. The elimination was confirmed as Cameroon, coming from behind, defeated Gambia.
This marks the second consecutive group stage exit for the Black Stars in the African Cup of Nations. In 2021, Ghana exited the tournament in Cameroon with only 1 point after three games in Group C.
Taking to his social media, the KRC Genk winger issued a heartfelt apology to the people of Ghana for the painful group stage exit. He wrote, “Sincere apologies to the good people of Ghana. We are truly sorry for not meeting your expectations. Important lessons to take away from this unforgettable experience. 💔 Thank you for coming through with your support in our low moments. 🙏”
Despite the disappointment, the 25-year-old winger will soon join his Genk teammates to continue the season after Ghana’s exit.
