Assistant coach of Asante Kotoko David Ocloo has stated that the extreme respect they showed to Asec Mimosa caused their defeat in the 2024 President's Cup.
The Ivorian powerhouse snatched a 2-1 win over Kotoko, notching two goals in the first half at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Ocloo, however, apologised for surrendering the trophy and disappointing their supporters and Ghanaians as a whole.
“It is very disappointing, and hard to take, we planned to make Ghana proud today. They should forgive us,” said Ocloo.
“We respected them too much in the first half. Our second half was very good," he added.
The defeat marks the Porcupine Warriors second consecutive defeat in the President's Cup, following their loss to bitter-rivals Hearts of Oak last year.
