Ghana Football Association Spokesperson, Henry Asante Twum has provided updates from the camp of the Black Stars who are preparing to take on sworn rivals Nigeria tomorrow in the 2025 Unity Cup tournament
The four-time African champions will wish to have a full strength squad for the game but will unfortunately miss some key figures like Kudus Mohammed, Thomas Partey, Kamaldeen Sulemana due to knocks. The Turkish-based players as well the once in the Major League Soccer are also out since their leagues are still in session
However, the team opened camp last Monday blended with some new faces and also players that have been out of the senior national team for sometime now hoping to have themselves adequately prepared for the game
PAOK FC full-back Baba Rahman has returned after over a year absence so as Italian-based striker Felix Afena-Gyan who has also been out for almost three years. Majeed Ashimeru, Salis Abdul Samed and others have all bounced back and will be available for selection
In an interview with Bill Eshun on TV3's Sports Daily, Henry Asante Twum threw more light on how preparations has been for the Black Stars since their arrival in the United Kingdom and ahead of the Nigeria game tomorrow
"The last friendly we lost so we really want to beat them this time. I know about the rivalry so games like these is very important and a win here can get the fans behind us so we will have to do everything to win the game."
"It's a friendly but not really a friendly. We want our people to be proud of us as it's always about who has a better team. We are hoping to be successful even though it will be tough but we will like to win."
Ghana will open their Unity Cup campaign on Wednesday against West African rivals Nigeria before playing their second game on May 31 against either Jamaica or Trinidad and Tobago.
