Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo is definitely safe for now after the narrow win over Mali and has stated they did the needful by snatching all the three points even though they were wasteful upfront.

The Black Stars seeked perfect redemption from the draw against Chad last week with an important 1-0 win over the Eagles in what was a very difficult and close contest at the Ohene Gyan Stadium in the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers

The tedious nature of the game saw no goal registered at half-time but Alexander Djiku’s close range tap-in from a deep Jordan Ayew’s corner in the early stages of the second half made the difference in the end.

Speaking in a post-match presser, the experienced trainer expressed satisfaction towards the win but added they still have to improve so much on their goal-scoring.

"This is football, sometimes you have to fix your tactics. I knew they (Mali) needed to win so we played a little bit defensively and we had good headers in our team because we have three tall defenders in our team and at the end that is his opinion and I understand," he said.

"had my tactics, we had our tactics and we decided well and what is most important is the three points," he added.

“We had some chances to finish the game, counters where we maybe could have scored the second goal but we couldn’t take use of these situations.”

Ghana after the win have now opened a three-point lead at the top as they continue to lead Group I with 19 points after eight matches

The four-time African champions will need four points at least from their next two matches against Central African Republic and Comoros to qualify
