Felix Afena-Gyan, an attacker for Cremonese, has received an invitation to join the Black Meteors camp ahead of their double-header against Algeria in the U-23 AFCON qualifiers.

Despite his team's lowly position in the Serie A table with just 13 points, Gyan has been called up to reinforce the Black Meteors' offense for the crucial games. He had initially been left out of Tanko's team, which had invited eight foreign players.

Gyan's prior experience with the Black Stars, having aided Ghana in qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar before being dropped from the final squad, may have influenced the decision to include him.

Coach Ibrahim Tanko and his squad are aiming to secure Ghana's place in the U-23 AFCON tournament, with the first leg of the final qualification round set for March 24th in Annaba, followed by the return leg in Kumasi four days later.

The U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, which serves as qualifiers for the 2024 Olympic Games, will take place in Morocco in June of this year.

The top three teams from the tournament will qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics men’s football tournament in Paris.
