Asante Kotoko SC has issued an official statement addressing concerns regarding their preparations for the upcoming Capital City Africa Cup, scheduled to take place on October 12, 2024, in Washington, D.C.
The statement, directed to supporters, stakeholders, and the general public, highlights issues surrounding visa delays that have raised questions about the team's readiness for the tournament.
The club acknowledges the concerns of its fans, particularly regarding the team's delayed departure due to outstanding visas for several players and officials. Asante Kotoko emphasized that these concerns are legitimate and assured supporters that they are working diligently to monitor and resolve the situation. The club also reassured fans that they are committed to ensuring the best possible outcome under the current circumstances.
According to the statement, the event organizers have provided assurances that efforts are being made to expedite the visa process for the remaining team members. The organizers are confident that all outstanding visas will be issued by Thursday night, October 10, 2024, in time for the team’s participation in the scheduled match on Saturday, October 12.
As of now, the first group of players, including Mohammed Camara, Abdulhamid Esmat, Justice Blay, Samba O'Neil, Emmanuel Antwi, Elvis Kyei Baffour, and Abdulrahman Yaoouf Yagoub, have already secured their travel documents and are set to depart for Washington D.C. today. The contingent will also include assistant coach David Ocloo, goalkeeper coach Najahu Issah, and team manager Henry Ohene Brenya. Head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum will lead the initial group as they begin preparations for the tournament.
The club anticipates that the second group of players and officials will receive their visas and travel to the United States by Friday, provided the organizers fulfill their commitments.
However, the club noted that if visa issues are not fully resolved in time, they may be forced to withdraw from the competition. Asante Kotoko stressed that they would not compromise the integrity and values of the club by participating under incomplete or inadequate conditions.
The management expressed gratitude for the continued loyalty and support of their fans during this challenging period and promised to provide timely updates as the situation evolves.
