Black Stars new gaffer Carlos Queiroz is expected to hand opportunities to a number of exciting young players as he begins shaping his squad for the Black Stars ahead of the upcoming international friendly against Mexico.

The Portuguese tactician is keen on assessing fresh talent as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with several promising Ghanaian players under consideration for call-ups.

Among them is Kelvin Nkrumah of Medeama SC, who is in line for what could be his second senior national team invitation after recently returning from a trial with Hull City. The midfielder has featured 25 times in the Ghana Premier League this season, scoring once.

Also expected to be invited is Prince Amoako Jr, the highly-rated forward plying his trade with FC Nordsjaelland. The 18-year-old has impressed with seven goals and five assists in 29 league appearances, making him one of the standout young Ghanaian talents in Europe.

Defensively, Oscar Naasei of Granada CF is also under consideration after a consistent campaign in Spain’s second tier, where he has made 30 appearances this season.

The coach is further expected to assess the FC Barcelona Atlètic duo of Abdul Aziz Issah and David Oduro. Issah has been particularly impressive, scoring four goals this season, while Oduro has also shown promise despite dealing with injury concerns.

Another name in the mix is Beres Owusu, the French-born winger currently playing for Grazer AK, who has caught attention with his performances this season.

The friendly against Mexico, scheduled for May 22, will serve as a key assessment platform for Queiroz as he looks to build a competitive squad. Ghana will also face Wales in June to wrap up preparations for the World Cup.

The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L of the World Cup alongside Panama, England and Croatia national team. They will open their campaign against Panama on June 17 before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
