Bechem United striker Hafiz Wontah Konkoni is being considered for a last-minute inclusion in the Black Stars squad for the crucial 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Madagascar.

The 23-year-old player, who currently competes in the Ghana Premier League, has impressed the coaching staff of the Black Stars, leading to speculation that he may be called up as a replacement for the injured Inaki Williams, who plays for Athletic Bilbao.

Williams had to withdraw from the squad due to concerns regarding an injury sustained in a recent match against Real Madrid.

With an impressive track record of 15 goals and one assist in 25 games for Bechem United, Konkoni has made a strong case for his inclusion in the national team.

If selected, he would be the sole locally-based player in Chris Hughton's squad, despite the coach closely monitoring Ghana Premier League matches since taking charge.

The Black Stars are set to face Madagascar in an away fixture on June 18. A victory in this pivotal qualifier would significantly enhance Ghana's prospects of securing qualification for the tournament, which is scheduled to take place in Ivory Coast.
