Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has emphasized the significance of his team’s victory over Basake Holy Stars in the Ghana Premier League, describing it as a major confidence boost.
The Porcupine Warriors secured a hard-fought 1-0 win at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, with Samuel Tenedu’s deflected strike in the 14th minute proving to be the difference. The result marked Kotoko’s third consecutive victory and extended their unbeaten run to four matches.
Kotoko now sit one point clear at the top of the league table, capitalizing on Bibiani Gold Stars’ failure to secure a win at home against Hearts of Oak.
Speaking after the match, Ogum commended his players for their relentless effort, particularly in navigating a congested fixture schedule.
“I have to commend the players for the great job they’ve done so far,” he said. “The tight schedule hasn’t allowed them much time to rest, but they’ve shown incredible energy in every match.”
Ogum also stressed that the victory over Basake Holy Stars was crucial for the team’s momentum.
“This win is a big one for us—it gives us a lot of confidence,” he added. “Playing in the Ghana Premier League and being on top gives us hope and motivation to keep pushing.”
With momentum on their side, Kotoko will now shift focus to their next home fixture against Berekum Chelsea as they look to solidify their position at the top of the table.
