Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Ibrahim Sannie Daara is pushing for Ghanaian forward Bernard Tekpetey’s inclusion in the Black Stars, following Tekpetey’s standout performances in the Bulgarian league.
Tekpetey, who last represented Ghana at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), has yet to earn a recall despite his consistent form abroad.
With the Black Stars’ recent struggles in AFCON 2025 qualifiers, Sannie Daara believes it’s time to broaden the selection pool beyond players in top European leagues.
"I think we should widen the scope, not only focusing on top leagues, but also considering players in strong secondary leagues," Sannie Daara told GHOne TV.
"For how long will this young lad keep performing well in the Bulgarian league? But maybe just because he's playing in Bulgaria, we are not giving him preference," he added.
His call comes as Ghana faces a critical AFCON qualifier against Angola on Friday, with the Black Stars desperately seeking their first win in the campaign after securing only two points from a possible twelve.
