Swedish coach Kim Lars Björkegren has been added to the Black Stars technical staff ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup this summer.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the appointment of the Black Queens head coach to deputize Otto Addo at the global showpiece to be hosted in USA, Canada and Mexico.
Björkegren has been instrumental as the head coach of the senior women’s national team of Ghana and he recently guided the Black Queens to win a bronze medal at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
He also led Ghana to qualification for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, a tournament he will continue to oversee, highlighting his consistent record of success in women’s football.
With a managerial career spanning Linköpings FC in Sweden, Beijing BG Phoenix F.C. in China, Apollon Ladies FC in Cyprus, and Racing Louisville FC in the United States, Björkegren has won domestic titles across multiple countries, making him only the second Swedish manager after Sven-Göran Eriksson to achieve such a feat.
Already, the Black Stars has two assistant coaches namely John Paintsil and former Ghana U20 head coach Desmond Ofei.
Ghana is paired in Group L of the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
