In preparation for their upcoming 2024 Olympics qualifier against Guinea, the senior women's team, the Black Queens, engaged in a friendly match against Avenor Stars, resulting in a 1-1 draw.

The Queens' coach, Nora Häuptle, divided the team into two sets, with the first set ending in a goalless draw. However, Avenor Stars took the lead in the 60th minute of the game.

The Queens' Jaqueline Opoku managed to equalize in the 70th minute before the match was ultimately called off.

The team will continue their preparations before departing from Accra to Conakry for the first leg of the qualifier against Guinea.

The qualification format, as released by CAF (Confederation of African Football), consists of four rounds of qualifiers:

  • First round: Comprising 18 teams, with the highest-ranked seven teams from the previous TotalEnergies Women's Africa Cup of Nations exempted.

  • Second round: The nine teams that qualify from the first round, along with the seven exempted teams, will compete in the second round. Eight teams will advance to the third round.

  • Third round: The eight qualified teams from the previous round will compete, with the aim of securing four spots in the fourth round.

  • Fourth round: The four teams that make it through the third round will compete for two places in the Women's Olympic Football Tournament (WOFT).

The Black Queens are determined to navigate through these qualifying stages and secure their place in the prestigious Women's Olympic Football Tournament.
