Ghana will be without Alexander Djiku for Thursday’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against Chad, after the centre-back was excused to complete a move to a new club in Moscow.

The Ghana Football Association confirmed the defender’s absence, noting that he will arrive in Accra on Friday to link up with the squad. It means Otto Addo will have to do without one of his most reliable performers for the crucial trip to N’Djamena.

Djiku’s return in time for Monday’s meeting with Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium is expected to hand the Black Stars a significant boost, with Ghana looking to consolidate their lead at the top of Group I.

The Black Stars touched down in N’Djamena early on Wednesday and are set to train later in the day at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno, the venue for Thursday’s clash.

With 15 points from six matches, Ghana are occupying top spot in Group I, keeping Comoros and Madagascar at bay, as they edge closer to a fifth World Cup qualification.
