Interim Black Stars assistant coach Ibrahim Tanko has made it clear that only players who deserve their place will earn a call-up for Ghana’s upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Somalia.
The Black Stars will face Somalia on November 12 and 16, with both teams still searching for their first win after two matches in Group C.
Ghana's poor start, which included defeats to Côte d'Ivoire and The Gambia, led to the departure of head coach Carlos Queiroz.
Kim Lars Björkegren has since been appointed as head coach, with Tanko and Godwin Attram serving as his assistants, as the new technical team looks to get the country's qualification campaign back on track.
Speaking after Medeama's 1-1 draw with Asante Kotoko, Tanko insisted that selection would be based on quality rather than where players ply their trade.
“There is no Ghana Premier League player or foreign player; we are looking at the best players that can help Ghana that’s it.”
He also stressed that home-based players would have a fair chance of earning places in the squad.
“If 10 local players, we think they can help, why not?” Tanko said.
