The former Ghana striker believes that the current crop of players in the Black Stars team cannot be relied on.

Taylor's comments come on the back of the Black Stars shocking goalless draw and the 2-0 loss to Sudan in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, throwing the teams qualification chances in shambles.

In the ongoing 2025 AFCON qualifier the Black Stars are winless after four matches and are slumbering in third position in Group F with their ticket to the continental showpiece hanging by a thread.

However, the last time Ghana missed out on AFCON was back in 2004, hosted by Tunisia. The West African giants have not won any trophy in forty years, having scooped the Africa Cup of Nations four times.

Speaking to Koforidua based Bryt FM, Taylor downplayed the potential of the current Black Stars team.

“Ghana Premier League success depends on the Black Stars. It’s time for us to resort to the GPL for players once the youth national teams are not functioning. We should pick the best players in the league and groom them for the future. The current Black Stars players cannot be relied on. You can’t bet on them for better results,” he stated.

The Black Stars will be out hoping to vindicate themselves in their upcoming 2025 AFCON qualifying games against Angola on November 15 and Niger on November 18.

The Palancas Negras will host the Ghana Boys at Estádio 11 de Novembro at 19:00 GMT. The Black Stars will play host to Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium at 16:00 GMT.
