Former Hearts of Oak and Kotoko star, Charles Asampong Taylor, strongly believes home-based players should be considered hugely in the Black Stars from henceforth since the current squad just can't be trusted.
The senior men national team have been very shambolic recently especially in the ongoing 2025 AFCON qualifiers- where they haven't won a game yet in their opening four matches.
On the back of the team's ill performance, lots of bookmakers of the game have started making case for local players saying they should be invited for the Black Stars next games since they will show much patriotism compared to the foreign-based once.
Opinions has divided on this topic but Charles Taylor, who won 16 appearances with the Black Stars, is in support and strongly believes if these local players are well groomed, we will one day boast of a strong team to compete like we use to.
“Ghana Premier League success depends on the Black Stars. It’s time for us to resort to the GPL for players once the youth national teams are not functioning. We should pick the best players in the league and groom them for the future. The current Black Stars players cannot be relied on. You can’t bet on them for better results”
Ghana are currently found on third spot on the Group F table with just 2 points with just to games to play making very unlikely to qualify for the next AFCON.
Otto Addo and his men will regroup very soon to take on Angola and Niger to wrap up the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series.
