Carlos Queiroz has been dismissed as head coach of the Black Stars with immediate effect after Ghana's disastrous start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) acted following consecutive Group C defeats to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia, leaving the four-time African champions without a point after two matches.

Ghana began their campaign with a 2-0 loss to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké before suffering a dramatic 4-2 home defeat to The Gambia, despite taking a two-goal lead through Ernest Nuamah's penalty and Felix Afena-Gyan's stunning free-kick.

The Portuguese coach had earlier guided Ghana to the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the Black Stars beat Panama, drew with England, lost to Croatia and were eliminated by Colombia in the Round of 32.

However, the team's poor attacking displays at the World Cup and its disappointing AFCON qualifying results intensified pressure on Queiroz.

After the defeat to The Gambia, Queiroz insisted his future rested with the GFA, but the association has now decided to end his tenure.

The Black Stars are bottom of Group C without a point, and the GFA must now appoint a new coach to revive Ghana's hopes of qualifying for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
