Chairman of Parliament’s Select Committee on Sports, Ernest Henry Norgbey, has revealed that the committee will invite the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Minister for Sports to account for the Black Stars’ recent poor performances.

The planned meeting follows Ghana’s disappointing start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where the Black Stars have suffered consecutive Group C defeats to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia.

According to Norgbey, the committee is preparing to investigate the factors behind the national team’s decline and will seek answers from both the GFA and the Sports Ministry.

“We as a committee are yet to investigate the performance of the Black Stars in recent times. We plan to invite the GFA, the Minister, purposely and specifically to interrogate what actually is happening to Ghana football, especially when it comes to the Black Stars,” he told Akoma 87.9 FM.

Ghana opened their qualifying campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire before suffering a 4-2 loss to The Gambia in Accra, leaving the four-time African champions without a point after two matches.

Norgbey said the committee intends to establish the root causes of the team’s struggles before considering recommendations aimed at helping restore the fortunes of the Black Stars.

The planned parliamentary hearing is expected to place both the GFA and the Sports Ministry under scrutiny as pressure mounts to revive Ghana’s AFCON qualification campaign.
