Carlos Queiroz has thanked Ghanaians and teeming followers of the Black Stars after leaving his position as head coach of the senior national team.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Portuguese tactician agreed to end his contract on Thursday, bringing his second spell in charge of the West Africa football powerhouse to an end.

Queiroz made a return to the Black Stars to help the team prepare for the 2026 World Cup and 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

However, his time as coach ended after Ghana lost their first two matches in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.

The Black Stars lost 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké and then suffered a 4-2 defeat to The Gambia in Accra, despite leading 2-0 in the first half.

In his farewell message, Queiroz thanked Ghanaians for their support and warm welcome during his time with the national team.

“To the Ghanaian people and all Black Stars supporters, thank you for your passion, support and warmth. I will always carry Ghana with me with respect and affection.”

The former Real Madrid and Portugal coach also urged Ghanaians to keep supporting the current Black Stars players.

“Believe in these players. Protect them. Support them,” Queiroz said. “The talent and potential are there. With unity, support and the right environment, this generation can achieve great things for Ghana.”

Queiroz also expressed his gratitude to the GFA, particularly president Kurt Okraku, for giving him the opportunity to lead the Black Stars.

He also thanked his technical team and the players who represented Ghana during his time in charge.

“It has been an honour to serve Ghana and the Black Stars. I sincerely thank the Ghana Football Association and particularly its President for their trust and for the opportunity to lead such a proud football nation,” he said.

Queiroz said he came to Ghana hoping to help build a stronger future for the Black Stars and develop the country’s football talent.

He admitted that the conditions needed to achieve these goals were not fully in place during his time as coach.

The Portuguese tactical brainy leaves the job with a message of support for Ghanaian football.

“I leave with respect, gratitude and pride,” Queiroz said.
