‘Certain truths could be very damaging at the wrong time’ – Kurt Okraku on Ghana’s AFCON drought
Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has suggested that there are deeper reasons behind the Black Stars’ failure to win the Africa Cup of Nations for 44 years, insisting that some of the issues require a private discussion.
Okraku made the remarks when he appeared before Parliament’s Select Committee on Sports on Wednesday, where he reflected on Ghana’s long wait for another continental title.
“The Black Stars in 44 years have not won the AFCON. This is a statement of fact. In 44 years, we’ve had different generations of super talents, and in 44 years, we’ve been to the grand finale on three occasions,” he said.
The GFA president indicated that he was reluctant to discuss certain issues in a public setting, warning that some revelations could have damaging consequences if made at the wrong time.
“There are certain reasons that I will not want to talk about here because I see cameras and whatever we say here is public. Sometimes certain truths said at a wrong time could be very damaging,” he added.
His comments come as the Black Stars face pressure to revive their 2027 AFCON qualification campaign after losing their opening two Group C matches, against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia.
The double-header against Somalia in match-day 3&4 are slated for November 12 and 16, all at the Essipong Stadium in Sekondi.
