Black Queens forward Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah has expressed her frustration and pride following Ghana’s difficult campaign at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The female senior national team of Ghana missed out on automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup after suffering a painful 2-1 quarter-final defeat to Malawi, forcing them to take the longer route through the intercontinental playoffs.
Ghana, however, kept their World Cup hopes alive by beating Cote d’Ivoire 2-1 in the WAFCON play-in, securing a place in the intercontinental playoffs for the next year’s global tournament.
Reflecting on the campaign, the highly-rated forward admitted that the tournament came with several difficult moments but believes the experience will remain valuable to her and the team.
“Some chapters don’t end the way you imagined, but they still change you. This tournament tested us in more ways than one. There were highs, lows, moments of frustration, moments of joy and lessons I’ll carry with me long after leaving camp,” she wrote on Instagram.
Boye-Hlorkah, who plays for Nottingham Forest, said she remained determined despite a difficult personal start to the tournament and believes the Black Queens still have a chance to achieve their World Cup dream.
“Our World Cup journey isn’t over. There’s still a door open and we’ll keep fighting to walk through it. For now, thank you WAFCON. We continue,” she added.
