The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is considering Desmond Ofei as a potential successor to Carlos Queiroz as negotiations over the Portuguese coach’s future continue to stall.
Queiroz signed a four-month contract in April 2026 and guided the Black Stars to the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, talks over a possible extension have reportedly hit a deadlock due to the coach’s demands.
Ofei has emerged as a strong internal option, having already been part of the Black Stars technical setup as an assistant coach under Carlos Queiroz. The 38-year-old previously served in the same capacity under former head coach Otto Addo.
The UEFA Pro Licence holder also has considerable experience working with Ghana’s youth national teams. He led the Black Satellites to gold at the 2023 African Games and has also coached the Black Meteors at U-23 level.
The enterprising tactician has also previously taken charge of the Black Stars on an interim basis, leading the team in a friendly against Mexico when Queiroz was unavailable.
With Ghana preparing for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers next month, the GFA is expected to reach a decision on the head coach position soon.
