Ghana coach Chris Hughton believes the absence of AJ Auxerre defender Gideon Mensah will not affect the Black Stars in Madagascar clash.

Earlier today, Mensah was ruled out of Ghana's 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar slated for this weekend due to an injury.

The French based left-back was declared unfit for the penultimate game by the medical team of the Black Stars after an examination on his knee on Monday.

However, Hughton is confident with the twenty-four players in the camp of the Black Stars for the Sunday's game against Madagascar.

Speaking to the media in the lead-up to the match, Coach Hughton highlighted the competitive nature of the squad, stating that there is no definitive first eleven and that all players are eager to make their mark on the team.

He emphasized that the national team is composed of talented individuals who are pushing each other to earn starting spots.

“It’s an opportunity for somebody else. This is an international team. There is no absolute standout first eleven” Hughton said.

“Whatever the squad is, whether 24 or 25, the players, they are all pushing to start,”

The Black Stars began training at the Accra Sports stadium on Monday, June 12 in readiness for the crucial clash in Antananarivo.
