Shilla Illiasu, a former defender of the Black Stars has bemoaned his dissatisfaction about the lack of identity of the senior national team in the last couple of years.

The former Asante Kotoko defender was making a comment as a result of Chris Hughton’s last three games in charge of the Black Stars, where he has recorded just a win and annexed two draws in the 2023 AFCON Qualifiers.

Illiasu went ahead to question the polarising formation, immense possession statistics and the roles Chris Hughton is trying to impose on the team.

“It is just not easy. First of all he has to identify the players that he has because there are players playing in different clubs and you are now bringing them to mold them into your formation so to me I’m yet to identify the identity he wants to impose on the team," Illiasu told CitiSports.

“I don’t know maybe after qualification before people will start to see but in all fairness our game against Madagascar I was lost.

"Maybe he went with a strategy just to get the points. But going forward he will have to convince us not me not you but all Ghanaians,” he added.

Ghana will face Central African Republic at home in their last qualifying group game in September, as they are expected to win to snatch a ticket to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled to come-off next year in Ivory Coast.
