Sports Minister Kofi Adams has called for the core of Ghana's Black Satellites squad to be retained and transitioned into the national U-23 team, the Black Meteors, as part of a long-term strategy for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

In a meeting with the Ghana Olympic Committee, Minister Adams emphasized the importance of building on the potential of the current U-20 side, despite their quarter-final exit from the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Describing the team as “a very good side,” Adams urged for the squad to be kept together, with a few additions, to form the foundation for Ghana's qualification bid for the 2028 Olympics.

“I believe this team, with a few additions, will grow into the U-23 squad that will be aiming for Olympic qualification,” said Adams, who is also the Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency.

The Black Satellites were eliminated after a 2-2 draw in their quarter-final against Nigeria, losing 5-4 in a penalty shootout. This result marked the continuation of Ghana’s absence from the FIFA U-20 World Cup since their last appearance in 2015.
