Former Ghana and Hearts of Oak defender, Dan Quaye has urged the GFA to embark on a process of rebuilding after the country's embarrassing AFCON campaign and added only five players in the current squad deserved to be maintained.

The Black Stars exhibited another shambolic performance in Cote D'Ivoire, having failed to win a single game and have suffered another group stage eviction in the ongoing 2023 AFCON, just like the last edition.

Ghana needed just a win to qualify last night but sadly gave away a two goal-lead and conceded two at the death to play out a painful 2-2 stalemate with Mozambique in their final group game to exit the competition.

Jordan Ayew netted a brace against the Mambas last night all from spot-kicks but his goals were cancelled out subsequently courtesy two late goals from Geny Cipriano and Renildo Mandava.

The draw means the four-time champions ended the campaign with just a point from a defeat and two draws and finished third in Group B.

In an interview earlier today, Dan Quaye, who was part of Ghana's 2006 World Cup squad, wants a complete overhaul in the Black Stars on the back of their ill display in Cote D'Ivoire.

However, he added he want these five players; Mohammed Kudus, Jordan Ayew, Majeed Ashimeru, Daniel Amartey and Alexander Djiku maintained, since they are the only guys in the current team that are committed to the nation.

"To me, the entire Black Stars team must be dissolved. We need to embark on a rebuilding. Players who are ready to sacrifice for the nations must be given the chance than to call players who are not committed to play for the country”

“We just have to maintain only five players from this current team. Mohammed Kudus, Jordan Ayew, Majeed Ashimeru, Alexander Djiku and Daniel Amartey must be maintained in the team. The rest don’t deserve a place in the team, they should just make way for new players”

“We are the worse team at the tournament because we don’t call the right players. We have competent players who can play for the national team like, Wakaso and Alfred Duncan. Underperforming Wakaso is better than an inform Baba Iddrisu, so why do you leave him out”

The Black Stars players will return to their respective clubs and will regroup again to take Mali on June 5, in their third game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
