Elmina Sharks midfielder, Jay Asamoah Kola has been charged with assault after he brutally tried to pelt a referee with a stone in the head during a Division One League match in the Central part of Ghana.
Asamoah Kola was charged for breaching Section 13(1)(k) of the Ghana Football Association’s Disciplinary Code following his attack on referee Eso Doh Morrison after Sharks lost 1-0 against Swedru All Blacks on Sunday.
Video captures of the moment saw Asamoah Kola taking hold of a stone to put his hand to whack the head of Morrison.
However, a police officer and an unidentified man blocked the blow from being unleashed on the head of the referee.
Asamoah Kola has until Tuesday, February 18, 2025, to respond to the charge.
