U.S Lecce director of football, Pantaleo Corvino has confirmed that the Italian Serie A returnees have opened discussions over a possible signing of Augustine Agyapong from Asante Kotoko.

Ghana's most authoritative football website, Kickgh.com on Wednesday exclusively revealed that negotiation between officials of Asante Kotoko and U.S Lecce has reached an advanced stage, with the Italian club proposing a lucrative offer to acquire the young defender on a long-term contract.

Agyapong, who is currently regarded as one of the best right-backs in the Ghanaian top-flight, is on the verge of leaving the Porcupine Warriors after one season to join the Serie A newcomers.
 
According to Italian tabloid La Gazzetta dello Sport, Lecce director Pantaleo Corvino has affirmed that his outfit has made a decision to acquire the services of Agyapong from the Ghana Premier League giants, Asante Kotoko this summer.

Pantaleo Corvino is a renowned Italian football director who spent several seasons at Fiorentina and brought Nikola Milenkovic and Dusan Vlahovic to the Stadio Artemio Franchi. He also discovered many other talents of Italian football, such as former Roma and Juventus striker Mirko Vucinic, Zdravko Kuzmanović, Stevan Jovetić, Pablo Daniel Osvaldo, Felipe Melo, Juan Manuel Vargas, Artur Boruc, Luca Toni, Alberto Gilardino, Adrian Mutu and many other players.
 
Agyapong was a standout performer for Asante Kotoko in the 2021/22 campaign, scoring one goal and an assist in 13 matches before joining the Ghana U20 side for the 2022 WAFU U-20 Cup of Nations in Niger.
 
He is a key member of the current male national U20 team of Ghana and also featured in the just ended Tournoi Maurice Revello tournament in France.
 
Agyapong joined Asante Kotoko on a four-year deal from lower-tier side Delsamaco FC prior to the commencement of the 2021/22 season.
