Ghana football legend, Mohammed Polo has charged the current Black Stars players to be fully committed to the nation and focus much more on winning matches since that's the only way to earn a massive love and support from Ghanaians.

Famously known as 'the Dribbling Magician' during his playing days, Polo was an integral member of Ghana's squad that achieved the 'host and win' in the 1978 Africa Cup of Nations.

For the tenth consecutive time, the four-time African champions have qualified to the AFCON and will start preparations early next year in Kumasi as they hope to end the country's over fourty-year hoodoo of not winning the trophy.

Coach Chris Hughton announced his provisional 55-man squad for the tournament weeks ago and is expected to trim it down to the final 26 by the close of next week.

Speaking in a recent interview on Asanteman Media Network, the ex- Hearts of Oak star feels the current set of players are only after money and nothing else and has urged them to forget about that and show some level of commitment and determination when they are in the national colours since that's what the Ghanaian football fans want.

"It is high time Black Stars players show commitment for Ghanaians to love them more as first because there's no hope anymore."

"Black Stars won the previous AFCON trophy with hunger and sacrifice without money mentality.

"Although money is very important in living but good sacrifice earns extra things together with the money.

"Our players must be fully determined and have an enthusiastic spirit to deliver when Ghanaians need them," he concluded.

The Black Stars of Ghana are in Group B alongside Egypt, Cape Verde and Mozambique.

The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations will commence on January 13, 2024. Ghana will face the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde the following day in Abidjan to kickstart their campaign.
