Former Ghana midfielder Derek Boateng has urged the Ghana Football Association to build the Black Stars team around Mohammed Kudus after his performance at the 2022 World Cup.

The former Fulham and Getafe star insisted that it is time for the FA to start building a solid team around the Ajax teenager, as he was the only player who delivered a dominant performance in Qatar.

“It is about time we start building the team around Kudus Mohammed because all the players we thought could do something for us are not stepping up in big moments. So, I think Kudus is the player we have to start building the team around him.”

“We lost against Uruguay and couldn’t qualify; I think this is the time that we have to come back and ensure the right things are done at the right time.”

“Honestly speaking, the way the team played broke my heart, I have been in such a situation before with the national team, it really breaks my heart, I’m speechless and even forcing myself to talk at the moment.”

With Ghana's poor run at the mundial, the Black Stars suffered an humiliating first round exit after losing 2-0 to Uruguay - having earlier succumbed to a 3-2 defeat to Portugal in the opener.

Ghana had battled South Korea to a stabbing 3-2 win in its second group game.

The Black Stars needed just a draw or win against Uruguay to advance to the Round of 16 stage, but they failed as they were defeated by their sworn enemies Uruguay to crash out of the tournament with them.
