Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, a former General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has stated that government must play a role in selecting an individual as GFA President.

The NPP Presidential primaries hopeful postulates that the separation of previously linked systems of government from football isn't right.

“The government represents communities and uses the nation’s money to build stadiums and fund national teams. President Kufuor chose Ben Coffie as Chairman of GFA and he appointed Nyaho Tamakloe with no objections from FIFA," he told Asempa FM.

“Those days the government will nominate two people. Then we will head to Congress and select one. So every FA Chairman knew they were accountable to the people. Today, it is taken over by people who don’t account to anybody," he concluded.
