Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Nii Lante Vanderpuye has expressed his frustration about the poor condition of the pitch at the Accra Sports Stadium, which hosted a curtain-raiser game between a Ghana Parliament select team and former Black Stars players as part of celebrations marking 30 years of democratic rule in Ghana.
Speaking after the match, Vanderpuye, who is also the Member of Parliament for the Odododiodio Constituency, lamented that the pitch was not ideal for play, saying it was a struggle to control the ball.
“The pitch is not as friendly as we would have wished to be and it was a struggle really controlling the ball but to some extent, it’s okay, we’ve managed," he said.
Despite this, he acknowledged that no serious injuries were sustained and that the game was still enjoyable.
"We should thank God that there has not been any serious injury…it was fun and we all enjoyed ourselves," he added.
The criticism comes as Hearts of Oak suffered their third consecutive loss to bitter rivals Asante Kotoko, losing 2-1 in a friendly match.
