Jan Gyamerah made his international debut for Ghana on Saturday, featuring in the Black Stars’ 2-0 defeat to Mexico in a pre-World Cup friendly as preparations continue for the 2026 tournament.
The defender was handed a starting role in what marked his first appearance for the senior national team, with Ghana using the match to assess options ahead of the global showpiece in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Despite the defeat, Gyamerah delivered a composed display at the back, showing defensive discipline and calmness under pressure against a strong Mexican side. He was among Ghana’s more stable performers and, according to Flashscore, earned a match rating of 6.0.
The 30-year-old remained on the pitch for most of the encounter before being substituted in the 90th minute for Ebenezer Adade.
Gyamerah’s debut adds another defensive option for the Black Stars technical team as they continue to evaluate players ahead of the final squad announcement for the World Cup.
At club level, the right-back is set to feature in the German Bundesliga next season after helping Elversberg secure promotion.
